Billion Oyster Project is an ecosystem restoration and education project aimed at restoring one billion live oysters to New York Harbor and engaging hundreds of thousands of school children through restoration based STEM education programs. It is a partnership of schools, businesses, non-profits, and individuals all working together to grow oysters and make their city a healthier and more resilient place to live. This partnership also includes local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, including the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with whom they work closely to certify and monitor their aquaculture methodology and ongoing habitat restoration projects.
