About this exciting opportunity
Our Transport and Field Operations Officer is responsible for the effective management of the Institute’s vehicle fleet, fuel facility and transport systems, while providing operational support to the Marine and Field Operations teams. This role involves leading a small team, allocating resources and coordinating daily activities to maintain operational readiness, safety, compliance and efficient service delivery. Key responsibilities include overseeing vehicle allocation and availability for fieldwork, managing fleet maintenance and operating costs, coordinating accident repairs and documentation, and ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy and fit for purpose. The Officer also manages the fuel facility, including fuel supply, stock levels, maintenance, upgrades and asset management.
As the Transport and Field Operations Officer, you will monitor operational data, prepare budgets, cost forecasts and performance reports, and provide recommendations to senior management to improve efficiency, reduce costs and enhance service outcomes. The Officer is also expected to actively support Field Operations and uphold AIMS’ Code of Conduct, Strategy 2040 and organisational values.
About you
You will bring substantial experience leading small teams and coordinating day-to-day fleet and transport operations, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, operational readiness and effective resource management. You will demonstrate highly developed problem-solving, organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands, make sound decisions and remain calm and effective under pressure. You will have a practical understanding of vehicle maintenance, roadworthiness and safety requirements, combined with strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to undertake minor repairs and maintenance.
You are able to communicate professionally and diplomatically, including when dealing with sensitive personnel or operational matters, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong proficiency across Microsoft Office 365 and corporate systems will support your ability to maintain accurate records, manage operational information and prepare reports. In addition, your interest and experience in maritime operations, marine research, small boating and relevant licences or qualifications would further complement the requirements of the position and support AIMS’ Marine and Field Operations activities.
