About this exciting opportunity
As a PDP Liaison Officer – Industry Science and Facility you will play a key role in advancing Australia's reef restoration industry through the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) Pilot Deployments Program (PDP). Working closely with AIMS scientists and industry partners, these positions focus on delivering the Conservation Aquaculture (CA) program by leading coral spawning, larval rearing, settlement, grow-out, and deployment operations. Part of these roles involves developing and maintaining standard operating procedures, ensuring biological and biosecurity compliance, training industry personnel, and coordinating the successful delivery of large-scale coral restoration initiatives.
In addition to supporting industry operations, the Liaison Officers contribute to high-quality scientific research by collecting and analysing field data, maintaining project datasets, and preparing technical reports. These positions will also facilitate the transfer of aquaculture technologies into industry, oversee the installation and management of AIMS assets at partner facilities, and represents the PDP through presentations, stakeholder engagement, and site visits.
About you
You will hold a bachelor’s degree in marine science, biology, or ecology and bring extensive experience in coral aquaculture, reef restoration, and the management of early coral life stages. You will possess a strong understanding of coral spawning, larval rearing, settlement, and grow-out processes, with the ability to independently assess coral health, make informed decisions throughout the aquaculture workflow, and ensure optimal outcomes in land-based aquaculture facilities. Your technical expertise is complemented by experience in planning and coordinating large-scale logistics operations, as well as installing, operating, and decommissioning marine aquaculture systems in support of reef restoration initiatives.
You will be a highly organised and adaptable professional who performs effectively in dynamic, fast-paced environments, demonstrating the ability to work independently while fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. You will have successfully supervised staff and contractors, delivered on-the-job training and coaching to build capability in coral spawning and aquaculture techniques, and developed strong working relationships with colleagues, industry partners, and external stakeholders. You will be an excellent communicator with leadership skills, bring a commitment to maintaining high operational and scientific standards, and a current Open C Class Driver Licence (or willingness to obtain one).

- AIMS AOF Level 4 salary ($100,818 to $114,730 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
- Full-time, 1-year, 10-month Temporary (Labour hire) opportunity to 30 June 2028
