About this exciting opportunity
As a Senior Field Technical Officer you will play a key role in delivering complex, multidisciplinary marine research projects. This position provides high-quality technical support for field-based experiments and operations, with significant time spent in the field each year, particularly during spawning and summer periods. You will lead field teams across a range of activities including boating, diving and other marine operations, while coordinating logistics, procurement, preparation and mobilisation to ensure successful project delivery.
Working closely with scientists, staff and stakeholders, you will contribute to data analysis, reporting and the development of operating procedures and scientific publications. The role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to supervise and mentor staff, visitors and trainees, proactively manage operational risks, and ensure compliance with research permits and safety requirements.
About you
You are an experienced marine research professional with a Bachelor's degree in marine science, biology or ecology, complemented by substantial experience working with early life stages of corals, coral production processes and reef restoration; or equivalent relevant professional experience. You bring extensive experience leading complex field operations, including boating, diving, coral surveys, experimental data collection, sample curation, and data management, supported by strong knowledge of Great Barrier Reef coral species and a commitment to safety and risk management.
Highly organised and adaptable, you thrive in fast-paced environments and work effectively with diverse teams, researchers, and stakeholders. You possess excellent communication skills and a proven ability to contribute to technical reports, operating procedures, and scientific publications while delivering high-quality support to marine science programs.

- AIMS AOF Level 4 salary ($100,818 to $114,730 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
- Full-time, 1-year, 10-month Temporary (Labour hire) opportunity until 30 June 2028
- Located in Townsville (Qld)
