About this exciting opportunity
As the SeaSim Symbiont Technician you will play a key role in supporting the AIMS Symbiont Culture Facility (SCF) by growing, maintaining, and developing cultures of coral-associated microalgae (Symbiodiniaceae) for use in AIMS research.
This role will contribute to safe laboratory operations, effective service delivery to both internal and external users, and the training and support of staff, students and visiting researchers, coupled with applying specialised technical skills and sound judgement to undertake complex laboratory procedures, support continuous improvement of method and systems, and help ensure the reliable operation of the facility.
About you
You will hold a master’s degree in Ecology, Marine Biology, Aquaculture, Aquatic Biology, Microbiology, or a related field coupled with considerable demonstrated experience in microalgal culture techniques and/or other unicellular organisms (including aseptic methods, media preparation, and microalgae isolation), or equivalent relevant professional research experience.
Our ideal applicant will bring knowledge and skills in laboratory management, marine biology, molecular biology, algal physiology, algal biology, algal taxonomy, photobiology, biochemistry, flow cytometry, spectrophotometry, DNA extractions and PCR along with demonstrated experience in genetic analyses and/or statistical analysis of experimental data.

Please note:
