About this exciting opportunity

We are seeking an experienced project coordinator / manager with a tertiary research background in restoration science to oversee the delivery multiple concurrent research proposals and projects. This role involves working closely with the Program Director, Research Team and Project Leads to coordinate project goals and milestone development and delivery to develop synergies across the project portfolio. The role will also involve an on-the-ground training and capacity building in restoration science principles and methods and prepare scientific outputs such as presentation, papers and reports.

Using your subject matter expertise, you will contribute to:

  • Facilitating collaboration and communication across research teams, industry and partner organisations;
  • Managing the end-to-end delivery of projects, including contract development, milestone tracking, deliverables reporting and collaboration management;
  • Taking responsibility for on-the-ground engagement, training and capacity building for projects;
  • Supporting Research Team and Project Leaders in adopting project management system and associated processes, providing training and guidance as needed;
  • Developing master schedules, monitoring progress and reporting across the program, ensuring program performance metrics are tracked and ad-hoc project queries can be answered; and
  • Building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders and industry partners to support project success.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be a people’s person and thrive on providing solutions. You must have strong organisational, communication and project management skills, coupled with a proven scientific track record in marine ecology or restoration, and a master’s degree or PhD in that field. You will be an experienced project manager, confident and tested at simultaneously planning, scheduling and delivering large research projects or collaborative programs at national and international levels. Ideally you will be experienced in using Microsoft Teams, Project or similar project management tools to support your work.

Success in this role requires a strong understanding of biological processes, experimental design and project integration and delivery alongside strong systems thinking, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage complexity. Advanced field and boating skills to support or lead field teams in remote locations is essential, including the ability to manage field based public engagements.

  • AIMS AOF Level 5 salary ($122,283 to $134,056 per annum) plus 15.4% superannuation
