AQUARIUM OF THE BAY / BAY.ORG: Life Support Systems Engineer. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Facilities and Life Support Systems, this position operates, maintains, monitors, and repairs the aquarium’s life support system. This is a full-time position. Essential Functions: The inspection, preventive maintenance, repair, replacement, and upgrades to the aquarium’s main, holding, and satellite exhibit life support system; Overseeing the daily life support system logs, updating logs as needed; Keep accurate and up to date preventive maintenance logs and notify management of failures or issues; Create written protocols and update existing life support systems SOPs; Train staff on procedures; Project management of life support systems upgrades and new installations; Ordering of supplies, parts, and equipment; Research the latest technologies and cost savings; Direct staff as needed; Liaison with the Animal Care staff; Other duties as assigned. Education & Experience: High school diploma; AALSO certification (preferred); 2–5 years in the life support systems field or related industry; Excellent communication and customer service; Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Physical Requirements and Work Conditions: Frequently stand (up to 10 hours), sit, walk, reach, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, carry, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear; Must be able to lift 50 lbs; Work inside and outside in varying environmental conditions; Comfortable working around and over water. Language Skill: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write and present engaging life support systems programs, proposals, and presentations; Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals.
