JOB SUMMARY
The Finance & Grants Management Director leads a team that owns the processes governing the life cycle of the organization’s agreements with donors and partners as well as facilitating the consolidation of the organization’s budget and reporting to the Board of Directors. The Director partners with program and executive leaders to drive value throughout project performance and provides high-quality, timely financial information for sound decision-making at all levels of the organization.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage the organization’s financial management and grants administration processes as well as identifying and delivering the processes and tools for automating compliance and customer service.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- With the CFO, manage the budget and forecasting processes to ensure reliable financial performance, providing analysis and advice on allocation of funding to meet the organization’s strategic priorities.
- Generate and publish timely monthly financial performance reports at the grant, program, region, division, and organizational levels.
- Conduct quarterly financial review and forecasting sessions to gain insights on financial performance.
- Prepare key visuals for presentation to executives and Board members on financial forecasting and performance.
- Manage the financial planning tool, Solver.
Grants Finance & Administration
- Work closely with Conservation and Advancement staff to ensure sound management of all foundation, federal, and state grant funds, including the development of proposal budgets and the management and tracking of grant funds.
- Provide expertise on grant compliance and interpretation of OMB Circulars and all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures in collaboration with finance staff. Interprets applicable regulations and translates into operational policies as required.
- Monitor all expenses to guard against unallowable costs and ensure that all funding is appropriately spent per grant terms and deadlines.
- Obtain an understanding of internal controls over the compliance requirements and related audit objectives, selected cost items, allowable and unallowable costs, and standard methodologies.
- Assist program managers in complying with grant financial and program requirements. Track remaining funds available, communicate routinely with program managers regarding available fund balances and spend-down plans, and prepare internal and external fiscal reports.
- Oversee financial reporting for foundation and government grants, including the preparation of required federal and state forms, draws, and reimbursement requests.
- Oversee invoicing for professional services contracts and other reimbursement-based grants.
- Lead the development of grant proposal budgets for new awards.
- Provide support and coordination with Legal in reviewing sub-grant agreements for prime grantor compliance and financial reporting.
- In conjunction with program managers, review and monitor agreements with sub-grantees and consultants to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Act as liaison to auditors regarding federal grant awards.
- Manage accounts and login credentials for government online portals/systems and ensure they are regularly updated and documented.
- Establish Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement for federal funder approval.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business.
- Minimum 9 years relevant experience including management of federal grants, sub-grants, and audits under the Uniform Guidance.
- Knowledge of GAAP, OMB Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200, indirect cost rate development, and other federal grant regulations.
- Expertise with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with accounting tools, Sage Intacct and Solver preferred.
- Ability to lead a team toward results with a high-level of customer service.
- Must be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects with aggressive timelines; ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to work with a range of personalities and working styles of staff at all levels within the organization.
- Team player and demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues to advance an organization’s broader goals and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team.

COMPENSATION
American Rivers offers marketable compensation that reflects the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $135,000, annually, depending on experience and qualifications. We provide a comprehensive Total Rewards package to our full-time, regular employees, including:

- Financial Security: After one year of service, American Rivers begins contributing a 3% employer contribution. There is no vesting schedule for employer contributions as employees are 100% vested upon participation.
