SUMMARY

AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is seeking an Economic and Workforce Development Coordinator to support the Business Hub Manager and Workforce Development Manager. This entry-level position will provide administrative, programmatic, data, communications, and event support for initiatives serving blue economy businesses, employers, students, and workforce partners. The Coordinator will help maintain strong day-to-day operations across AltaSea’s business support, internship, work-based learning, and partner engagement activities. A passion for the ocean, sustainability, economic opportunity, and equitable career pathways is desirable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it provides a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities of the position. The incumbent may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be assigned additional position-specific tasks.

DUTIES: Support the implementation and administration of AltaSea’s economic and workforce development programs:

· Assist the Business Hub Manager with tenant and entrepreneur outreach, scheduling, follow-up, referrals, and coordination of business support activities.

· Assist the Workforce Development Manager with internships, fellowships, work-based learning activities, participant onboarding, employer coordination, and student communications.

· Maintain accurate contact, participant, tenant, employer, and program records in spreadsheets, customer relationship management systems, and other information platforms.

· Collect, organize, and enter program data to support performance tracking, evaluation, grant reporting, and departmental key performance indicators.

· Coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, industry convenings, career events, networking activities, and other economic and workforce development programs.

· Prepare agendas, presentation materials, sign-in sheets, meeting notes, surveys, and follow-up communications.

· Respond to routine inquiries from students, tenants, employers, colleges, community organizations, and other partners, and route requests to the appropriate staff member.

· Support recruitment and outreach for internships, workforce programs, business assistance services, and department events, including coordination with AltaSea’s Communications team.

· Conduct basic research on blue economy businesses, workforce programs, funding opportunities, educational partners, and regional resources.

· Assist with grant applications, progress reports, invoices, participant documentation, and supporting program records.

· Maintain program calendars, project schedules, shared files, contact lists, and departmental procedures.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Related internship, administrative, program coordination, customer service, community engagement, workforce development, or business support experience would be preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

· Strong organizational, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.

· Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and a professional, service-oriented approach.

· Ability to work collaboratively with diverse students, businesses, community partners, and colleagues at all organizational levels.

· Ability to collect, organize, enter, and summarize program data accurately and maintain confidential information.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; willingness to learn customer relationship management and program management platforms.

· Basic knowledge of, or interest in learning about, economic development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, the blue economy, and equitable access to career opportunities.

· Ability to take initiative, follow established procedures, accept direction, and exercise sound judgment in routine situations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· Work will be performed primarily at the AltaSea campus in San Pedro, including office, warehouse, wharf, and floating dock settings, and occasionally at external locations such as schools, colleges, partner sites, and community events.

· The AltaSea campus may be subject to noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and other working-waterfront conditions.

· The position requires regular computer use and may involve occasional evening and weekend work and local travel.

Schedule & Compensation:

· Full Time – M-F 9am to 5pm, with occasional after hours and weekend coverage needs

· Hourly pay commensurate with experience. Pay range is $60,000 to $68,000 per year
