Summary
Perform mechanical and technical work on diesel and gas engines and generators, marine jet and standard propulsion systems, and small vessel and outboard systems on vessels ranging from 19-200 plus feet. You must be able to lead small teams during repair projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot diesel, gas and propane engines, generators, jets, shaft and propellers.
- Install pumps, build brackets.
- Install piping, fabricate manifolds and install bathroom fixtures.
- Run fuel lines, wiring harnesses, control cables associated with marine engine installation.
- Rebuild various diesel engines.
- Line up engines in new vessel builds for drive lines, exhaust and saltwater plumbing.
- Lead a small team during remote repairs
- Able and willing to travel to other ports in Southeast Alaska for repairs as needed.
- Able to receive direction from and provide feedback to manager regarding job status, problems, solutions or adjustments to the plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Degree or equivalent.
- Diesel Mechanic technical training or 3+ years in-depth diesel mechanic experience.
- Experience working with electronics and wiring systems.
- Always present a professional and friendly attitude to guests and crew.
- Must pass a security background check and DOT drug test.
Preferred Qualifications
- Repair and installation of electronics system.
- Boat plumbing experience.
- Heavy equipment operation (including forklift, tractor and travel lift).
- Welding experience (steel, stainless and aluminum)
- Associates Degree .
- Industrial Mechanic (3+ years).
- Driver license.

- Travel to the vessels in Alaska and extended stay up to 5 months on board is required .
- Environmental conditions generally include cool inside temperature, low to high level inside lighting, moderate to loud noise levels, all weather conditions, frequent use of required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to walk on uneven deck surfaces crossing from vessel to vessel .
- Physically able to climb a 7-foot vertical ladder and fit through a 28-inch escape hatch.
- Able to lift 80+ pounds.
- Able to wear PPE such as a respirator, safety glasses and hearing protection
