Summary of this Role:

The Conservation campus co-coordinator will oversee and support, day to day operations and activities as well as necessities of the campus, which includes a biological station, nature retreat center and agro-ecological farm. Focusing on excellent visitor experience, he/she is expected to work and improve a customer service culture and work side by side with the Campus coordinator, Director, Farm coordinator and conservation programs to ensure an immersed conservation experience.

This role requires the ability to manage multiple work streams, support the coordination of all campus departments -kitchen, maintenance, housekeeping, farm sales- and supervise at all levels, managing budgets efficiently, coordinating with OC teams, farm clients and supporting client service at the campus to lead operations and logistics in a 2600 ha wildlife refuge. The candidate must be highly organized, a good team player, motivated, able to complete work tasks in an effective and timely manner, and solution-oriented to solve problems.

This person should have an entrepreneurial spirit and must be prepared for the associated challenges of working in a remote tropical rainforest field setting (one hour away from the nearest town). This role provides a unique opportunity to strengthen and contribute to a quickly-growing conservation organization whose mission is to protect one of Earth’s last wild places.

Main responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead and oversee OC campus operations including but not limited to cleaning, kitchen, maintenance and farm.
  • Manage inventory of all supplies.
  • Work closely with the farm coordinator in organizing farm productive cycles based on station and visitation needs.
  • Lead and work closely with the farm coordinator in developing value added products that can be part of the station menu or sold at the campus.
  • Maintain weekly registers of farm sales and create sales invoices.
  • Promote and establish new clients to sell farm produce.
  • Work closely with the head of kitchen in developing farm to table menu options for Campus visitors and staff.
  • Revise, improve and lead sustainability activities at the Campus, encompassing all operations and including our staff, conservation programs and visitors.
  • Lead working groups to attract and promote the campus in order to increase the number of visitors, including researchers, tourists and donors.
  • Coordinate personal and individualized contact (calls, photos, videos, cards, etc.) to increase the number of visitors of the Osa Conservation campus.
  • Produce printed and digital (including social media) material to actively promote the Osa conservation campus.
  • Work closely with the Conservation Campus Director to identify needs and priorities of the Osa Conservation Campus.
  • Lead the volunteer program at Osa Conservation and work closely with the conservation program staff in ways to improve the volunteer’s experience.
  • Supervise and organize interns and volunteers schedules in the Campus.
  • Lead farm visits for donors and visitors.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Supporting roles with the Osa Conservation Campus Coordinator:

  • Manage and improve client service to efficiently operate the Station and Nature retreat center.
  • Develop, implement and supervise processes of all hospitality services, property maintenance and supply acquisition.
  • Develop and oversee in conjunction with the Conservation Campus coordinator and director the schedules for the campus’ visitors – including student groups, donors, researchers and more.
  • Work closely with guests to make sure all their individual needs are met.
  • Manage reservations in our booking system and follow up with guest’s arrival and after departure surveys.
  • Design, develop and implement travel itineraries and tours to increase the number of visitors and their experience on the campus.
  • Weekly orders of supplies for the campus based on visitation.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

    • This role can be fulfilled by numerous backgrounds as in: tourism, administration, marketing, hospitality, agro-ecology or a related field.
    • Sufficiency in English and Spanish required.
    • Exceptional ability in cross-functional collaboration.
    • Strong communications skills.
    • Ability to engage effectively with staff and partners at all organization levels.
    • Close attention to detail and quick turnaround time for work products.
  • Ability to live and work in a challenging remote field setting.
    • Flexibility around working hours and schedule depending on the specific requirements and dynamics of the Campus.
    • Must be solutions oriented, able to diagnose problems quickly, and have foresight into potential issues
    • Ability to foster culture of teamwork and contribute to different issue areas across organization as needed
    • Microsoft office and Google programs knowledge.
  • Must possess a valid manual Driver’s license
