Are you interested in understanding how fish communities will change under a changing climate? Or studying what type of fish life history strategies will be selected in the future ocean? We are looking for a PhD candidate to join the Ecosystem Based Marine Management section at DTU Aqua (The National Institute for Aquatic Resources, Technical University of Denmark) for a 3-year PhD fellowship.
You will become part of a larger research project with the aim of understanding how climate-induced changes in fish growth strategies affect future trends in fish community biomass and potential catch productivity. Applicants with various backgrounds are encouraged to apply and a range of topics can be chosen, depending on candidate preference and suitability. Topics are:
- Fish biogeography: investigating fish growth strategies across marine environments from tropical waters to polar regions using observational data
- Fish ecology: studying relations between fish growth, morphology, and physiology using concepts from trait-based ecology
- Ecological modeling: development of a trait-based fish community model with emergent fast and slow life history strategies to simulate fish community responses to environmental change
The PhD candidate will become part of a vibrant, cross-disciplinary, and international research environment at DTU Aqua in Lyngby. We currently have a group of about 20 early career scientists (PhD and Postdocs) working on various aspects of marine life, fisheries and climate change using diverse approaches (observational, experimental, theoretical).
