CHIEF SURVEYOR

YOUR ROLE

As a Chief Surveyor at Deep, you play a vital role in shaping the quality, safety, and innovation of our offshore and nearshore survey operations. You’re not just coordinating projects, you’re ensuring that every measurement, every deployment and every decision contributes to our mission of a planet-proof future.

You’ll work as part of one of our four Project Management Teams, alongside a Project Manager and a Team Leader Processing. Together, you ensure smooth execution of field operations and act as the operational link between our office in Amsterdam and our survey vessels in the field.

This is an office-based role that combines coordination, technical expertise and leadership. You’re the go-to person for field teams when challenges arise and a key point of contact for clients on all operational matters.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Coordinate with Impact: You’ll manage multiple survey projects at once, ensuring that all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and according to client specifications. You allocate resources, plan mobilizations, and support survey teams from preparation to completion.

Bridge Office and Field: You act as the operational link between field teams, office staff, and management, keeping communication clear and collaboration strong. You stay closely connected with the teams in the field, offering both operational and technical guidance, monitoring their performance and well-being, and ensuring everyone can work safely and return home healthy. You make sure information flows smoothly, challenges are addressed quickly, and everyone stays aligned both internally and with clients.

Stay Connected and Present: You regularly visit project sites to ensure Deep quality, best practices, and HSE standards are upheld. Your presence helps maintain alignment between office and field, and ensures that Deep’s standards are visible in action.

Drive Technical Excellence: You’ll collaborate with our Planning & Resources and Fleet departments to troubleshoot operational issues and continuously improve our survey methods and workflows. You’re curious, analytical and always looking for smarter and safer ways to work.

Engage with Clients: You’ll represent Deep in operational discussions with clients, ensuring their needs are met while upholding Deep’s high-quality and safety standards.

Champion Sustainability: Every project is an opportunity to do things better. You look for new approaches that make our work more efficient, innovative and sustainable, helping Deep move closer to net-zero survey operations.

WHO WE LOOK FOR

A natural leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys guiding teams toward shared goals.
Someone with hands-on experience in hydrography, geophysics, or the maritime industry.
A clear and confident communicator: comfortable talking to both field crews and clients.
Analytical and solution-oriented, with a sharp eye for quality, safety, and efficiency.

You have a forward-thinking mindset and are eager to bring in improvements.

WHAT WE ASK

Proven experience in survey operations or a related maritime field.
Strong understanding of offshore and nearshore survey equipment and practices.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Fluent in English (Dutch is a plus).
Based in the Netherlands, within commuting distance of Amsterdam.
Available for 32–40 hours per week (0.8–1.0 FTE).
