Overview of Position: Full‐time position focusing on generating scientific publications from the data collected by the CFRF Lobster and Jonah Crab Research Fleet. The Research Associate will help support ongoing publication efforts and lead at least one original manuscript. The individual will also assist in other CFRF research initiatives at the direction of the Executive Director. This can include time at-sea on commercial fishing vessels as part of ongoing surveys or other initiatives. Timeframe and Compensation: The Research Associate will maintain an average of 35 hours of work/week, will receive compensation at a rate of $50,000‐$70,000/year, depending on qualifications, and benefits of healthcare, life insurance, and paid holiday and personal time. Scope of Work: The qualified applicant will work with CFRF staff to increase the impact of the Lobster and Jonah Crab Research Fleet through the publication of scientific manuscripts. These publications will be based off data collected by the Research Fleet, which has been active since 2013 and is currently comprised 21 fishing vessels. At-sea data collection by commercial fishermen includes a suite of biological parameters from American lobster (Homarus americanus) and Jonah crab (Cancer borealis) caught in commercial and ventless traps as well as bottom temperature. More information on the Research Fleet can be found here. Location: The Research Associate will work primarily remotely. It is expected the individual will regularly communicate with staff and at least monthly meet in-person with CFRF staff. The CFRF offices are in the Commercial Fisheries Center of Rhode Island building on the East Farm Campus of the University of Rhode Island (Kingston, RI).
