Position Summary

Builders Vision is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Controller, reporting to the Head of Finance and Accounting. The Assistant Controller will oversee the accounting team managing all aspects of daily accounting for the management company, investment entities, and private foundation, including tax and budgeting responsibilities. This role will also be involved in reviewing financial data analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness in our financial records. The position will collaborate closely with other members on the Operations and Investment teams and maintain confidentiality at all times. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the accounting and finance function in the context of building a data-driven and operationally efficient organization in support of our overall vision.

  • Responsible for managing the daily accounting function, overseeing a team of two accountants, and ensuring compliance with internal delegation of authority and appropriate GAAP standards.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including review of various monthly account analyses, such as cash and disbursements, and reconciliations supporting balance sheet and income statement accounts across various entities.
  • Assist the Head of Finance & Accounting with developing accounting policies and procedures and maintaining such policies and procedures to ensure adequate accounting and control for all significant accounts such as cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accounts payables, and payroll. In addition to standard accounts, understanding and implementing processes for accounting for intercompany transactions, payroll benefits, and fair value accounting for financial instruments.
  • Responsible for proactively and independently preparing consolidated financial statements for a growing organization on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Lead the annual audit process for the private foundation by managing the preparation and information requests of various financial statements as required by the entity, its external auditor, the IRS, or other regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee employee expense reporting via online platform.
  • Review cash projections for period capital call planning for entities.
  • Review various financial analysis reports in partnership with the Finance Operations Associate.
  • Assist the Head of Finance & Accounting and in partnership with the Finance Operations Associate, working cross-functionally with team leaders, to prepare the annual operating and philanthropic budgets and mid-year revisions.
  • Oversee quarterly budget to actual reporting across the enterprise.
  • Manage preparation of intercompany fees and implementation of shared services agreements and related billing.
  • Active mentorship/coaching of team members; provide technical, hands-on knowledge and skills, as needed.
  • Assist with upcoming projects, including but not limited to Sage Intacct implementation, such as, advanced budget and forecasting, financial reporting and monthly close improvement projects, such as automation of relevant schedules, data analytics and overall enhancements of controls and processes in place.
  • Assist with ad-hoc requests / projects from the Head of Finance & Accounting.

Qualifications Required for Your Success

  • Bachelor’s degree with a record of high achievement in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance or related field. Certified Public Accountant designation is strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including management company accounting, fair value and fund accounting, and taxes.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience. Private equity experience a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
  • Experience with budgeting and forecasting processes would be beneficial.
  • Collaborative using a client service mentality with individuals from around the firm.
  • Strong analytical problem-solving aptitude with creative solutions, ability to organize work with large amounts of information efficiently, manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to professionally communicate, both in writing and verbally, with team, vendors, and third-party administrators.
  • Able to work as a team player, be flexible and adaptable to change.
